Detroit Metro, MI

A utility transmission company wanted to install and test two types of storage that are shaping up to be the backbone of the utility distribution system of the future.

To validate availability, round trip efficiency, and life-cycle costs, the client procured and installed both a Powin LFP battery and a UET ReFlex Vanadium Flow Battery. To standardize the dispatch and monitoring of the system, the Generac ARC was selected by Generac as the energy resource agnostic to allow for the side-by-side comparison.

The ARC controller allows the test plan to be run while ensuring guardrails are in place around safety, charge and discharge rates, and complying with the interconnect requirements. All data is fed to the utilities SCADA over DNP3 while also recording the performance data locally in the ARC database.
