The Nesmith Readiness Center

Dallas, OR

When people rely on a facility for help in an emergency situation, power outages are not an option. At the Nesmith Readiness Center, the ARC Controller coordinates solar and storage to ensure the lights never turn off.

The Nesmith Readiness Center provides administrative, training, recruiting and family support space for the 162nd Combat Engineering Company of the Oregon National Guard. But this LEED Gold facility is not just a place for training. It is also where the national guard, red cross or other emergency response teams will provide disaster relief in the event of an actual emergency situation. In order to provide this support, power resilience for this facility is of paramount importance. In the event of a grid outage, the ARC Controller detects this failure, islands the system, and coordinates solar and energy storage to keep the power flowing. During normal operations, ARC optimizes around the utility tariff to provide the facility with monthly electrical savings through demand charge savings.
